Citrus

I love to work on improving my artificial lighting skills. So about once a month, I choose a subject based on seasonal fruits and vegetables. This month when I stopped by my local food co-op, the fruit section was bursting with citrus.

I excitedly left with a visual feast of cara cara oranges, blood oranges, tango mandarins, grapefruit, kumquats, lemons, and limes!

This time of year on the Palouse it’s cold and dark. The smell, taste, and beauty of citrus cast a warm glow on the day. The first few images that follow are telling the story of making strawberry lime mocktails. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water!!

The backdrop I used is from Woodville Workshops. Their hand painted boards are stunning. They provide a beautiful textured setting that both enhances the image and adds depth and interest as well.

Below you can see the difference between using hard flash lighting and diffused lighting.

For the final images of the granola, yogurt, and citrus shoot, I used the Fibonacci spiral to create the composition.

As I was finishing up, I just had to take a photo of the leftover citrus rinds and slices. They were so beautiful and appealing! I took note of this and thought to myself, what a great life lesson! Even in the drab and dead of winter, there is a rainbow of color and beauty waiting to be found!
